Empty Vessel Magazine

Empty Vessel Magazine is a quarterly journal covering both the philosophical and religious aspects of Daoism. We have not published since Hurricane Ian, but we do maintain our independent bookshop for Daoist aligned books as well as an Etsy shop where you can shop for back issues of the Empty Vessel. If you live in the area of Port Charlotte to St. Petersburg on the West Coast of Florida, please contact me directly if you want to skip shipping and pick up at one of my acupuncture offices.

Empty Vessel Magazine is a publication devoted to the philosophy and living practice of Taoism. Inspired by the ancient concept of the “empty vessel” as a symbol of openness, usefulness, and quiet potential, the magazine explores how Taoist wisdom can be applied to modern life.

Through essays, translations, commentary, and personal reflections, Empty Vessel engages with core Taoist ideas such as balance, simplicity, non-action (wu wei), and harmony with the natural world. It draws from classical sources like the Tao Te Ching and the writings of Zhuangzi, while also creating space for contemporary voices to interpret and embody these teachings in everyday contexts.

Rather than presenting rigid doctrine, Empty Vessel Magazine invites readers into a more spacious way of thinking that values stillness, curiosity, and alignment with the flow of life. It is a place for seekers, practitioners, and the quietly curious to encounter Taoism not just as philosophy, but as a lived, evolving experience.
