Hypericum helps hands and feet

Some weeks it seems I am a little extra clumsy, and this time it was my fingers that were suffering. I was less than mindful, and every day I was pinching my fingers in a drawer or between files. Nerve rich fingertips make small injuries like that seem disproportionally painful, and since I work with my hands it makes those small injuries even more inconvenient.

Luckily, as a homeopath, I know that Hypericum is my best friend for clumsy days. The homeopathic preparation of St. John’s wort, this remedy’s keynote is for when you “smash your thumb with a hammer.” Usually after one dose of Hypericum 30c (which is typically five pellets sublingual) , I can easily forget about the injury and move on with my day.

A day after my finger-pinching spree, hubby was stubbing his toes all over the place. A dose of Hypericum 30c cleared up his pain as well. Along with Arnica, Hypericum is one of the polycrest remedies that belong in every home’s first aid and travel kit for minor injuries. Hypericum is often recommended for nerve injuries, especially when there is sharp, shooting, or radiating pain. It is used to relieve pain and promote healing in injuries that involve nerves, such as crushed fingers or toes, puncture wounds, or injuries to the spine. It is also helpful for alleviating neuralgic pain, which is characterized by sharp, shooting pains along the course of a nerve like trigeminal neuralgia or sciatica. Of course, if you have any serious injuries you should get checked out by your health care team before starting any remedy, and check in with your homeopath if you have any questions about which remedy is right for your condition. But if you’re ever in a pinch, think of Hypericum first.
